Office, Manufacturing & Commerce

Some traditional office businesses were forced to operate remotely. While this may have meant that the pandemic impact separated the contact of office-to-office workers, the more immediate reasoning was to subvert the office-to-public contact. The list of businesses utilizing the computer-phone-remote enterprise included law firms, insurance agencies, realtors, brokerage firms, and more. The enforced option opened minds to new ways of providing full services to customers and clients.

Lobbies were empty. People who had a reason to visit these smaller commercial and procedural components of society knew that the in-person visit became a non-starter. Innovative ways to do everything necessary by phone, FAX, online, or by video became the standard for weeks on end. The video meeting service Zoom was in vogue. DocuSign became more prevalent. Send, sign, and scan documents became a daily process—even for real estate closings. These processes had been around for several years but were underutilized. They were being performed by an office full of workers who could no longer gather because of the virus. So, why could they not be done from the family computer in the spare bedroom?
